What to expect

A complete look at your smile — with zero guesswork

A dental exam is more than a quick peek in the mirror. Our team takes the time to review your medical and dental history, ask about anything that's felt different, and walk you through each step before we begin. If it's your first visit, we'll get to know your goals so every future appointment feels familiar and easy.

Using digital x-rays and gentle intraoral cameras, we examine every tooth, your gums, your bite, and the soft tissues of your mouth. We look for cavities, early signs of gum disease, wear from grinding, and anything else worth watching. When we find something, we show you on screen and explain it in plain language — no jargon, no pressure.

You'll leave with a clear picture of your oral health and, if needed, a simple treatment plan you can start whenever you're ready. Most patients come in every six months for a check-up and cleaning — we'll help you choose the rhythm that fits your life.

Enough time to be thorough without ever feeling rushed.

Who should book a dental exam?

  • New patients wanting a full baseline of their oral health.
  • Anyone whose last check-up was more than six months ago.
  • Patients feeling sensitivity, discomfort, or unsure about a spot.
  • Families booking a shared visit — kids and adults, same day.

What happens during your exam

Every complete exam follows the same gentle, thorough rhythm — so you always know what's next.

  1. 1

    Welcome & health review

We sit down together, review any medications or health changes, and talk through what's been on your mind since your last visit.

  2. 2

    Digital imaging

Low-dose x-rays and intraoral photos give us a full view of what's happening between teeth and below the gumline.

  3. 3

    Hands-on evaluation

Tooth-by-tooth check for decay, cracks, or worn fillings, plus a careful look at your gums, bite, and jaw joints.

  4. 4

    Oral cancer screening

A quick, painless check of your tongue, cheeks, palate, and neck — an easy step that can catch issues early.

  5. 5

    Review & next steps

We show you the images on-screen, explain what we found in plain language, and build a plan around your comfort and budget.

How often should you book one?

For most healthy adults and children, a full exam every six months is the sweet spot — often enough to catch issues while they're small, and paced comfortably alongside your professional cleaning. Patients with gum concerns, active orthodontic treatment, or a history of frequent cavities may benefit from a visit every three to four months. We'll recommend a schedule that matches your smile — never a one-size-fits-all rule.

Common questions about dental exams

Is a dental exam covered by insurance?+

Most Canadian dental plans cover a recall exam and x-rays once or twice a year. We'll happily submit the claim on your behalf and walk you through any out-of-pocket costs before we begin.

Will the exam be uncomfortable?+

Not at all. A check-up is one of the gentlest appointments we offer — no needles, no drilling, just careful looking and conversation. If you feel anxious, tell us; we'll slow the pace and keep you in control.

Can I get my cleaning on the same day?+

Yes — many patients pair their exam with a hygiene visit to save a trip. Let us know when you book and we'll reserve extra time.

What should I bring to my first exam?+

Just your health card, insurance details if you have coverage, and a list of medications. If you have recent x-rays from another office, we're glad to review them.

Dental emergency?

In pain or worried about a tooth? Call us right now.

We keep same-day slots open for emergencies — chipped teeth, sudden pain, lost fillings, or anything that just doesn't feel right. Don't wait it out.
